This is a stylized 1920s car meant for the Steam game "Kamikazi" by Vamsi (Banty) Varra. The art style for this particular level was in black and white, as to match the art style of the 1920s-1930s. Because of this, I decided to make a 1929 Ford Model A, as it seemed to be the most popular/common type of car from the time period.
Due to me needing to make multiple variants, I had the idea to experiment with making the car model modular, with various components and textures able to be swapped out and interchangeable. I haven't previously attempted many modular assets prior, so this was a nice opportunity and challenge to experiment in achieving this goal. By going off the reference images and what-not, I decided to give modularity to 3 spare tires, rear storage, and to the main cabin. These components, along with the 4 texture sets consisting of a white, black, grey, and police variant, are able to be interchangeable with each other to create many different variants of the asset that allow the level designer in our studio for easy car customization in the Unreal Engine level.
One of my goals was to make the default, base car model between 9-10k polys, of which I achieved while still having the asset look accurate. If you were to add the realistically maximum amount of modular components to a car variant, lets say, 2 spares and the rear storage, it is around 13-14k polys or less.
